Family Advocacy
Collaborative consultation for educational programs, schools, or service organizations to strengthen systems, improve behavior supports, and align practices with evidence-based strategies. This service provides comprehensive advocacy and clinical guidance for families navigating the complexities of special education services. The focus is on empowering caregivers of individuals aged 2 to 21 to secure the resources, education, and environments their loved ones need to thrive.
Educational Advocacy (IEP/504 Support): Assisting families through the Special Education process. This includes reviewing evaluations, attending IEP meetings, and ensuring that behavioral goals are clinically sound, measurable, and tailored to the student’s unique profile.
Systems Navigation: Guiding families through the transition points of development—from early intervention (age 2+) to the critical transition to adulthood (up to age 21).
Caregiver Empowerment: Providing evidence-based training and emotional support. Dr. O’Connell-Sussman focuses on sustainable strategies that improve the family's overall quality of life and autonomy based on their values and goals.
